Waters

If you feel there is a problem on a particular water, then please inform a member of the committee. We need your feedback to make decisions about management of our waters.

PLEASE ensure you are aware of the byelaws applying to a water, ranging from: braid main line banned as of the start of June 2008, dipping all nets, limited night fishing, closed when a match is held and other specific byelaws. There are dedicated car parking areas at each water that must always be used.

Combination padlocks are on most waters and are reset each season.

Shillinglee Imbhams Lythe Hill

SHILLINGLEE MAIN LAKE
Owned by the Society and located on the Surrey/Sussex borders the 30 acre lake is a place of tranquillity and peace. There are 65+ swims of differing variety ranging from reed surrounded platforms and banks to those in woods or on the “wall” section running in front of the track accessing a residential property. Known for its bream shoals with historical match weights at 100lbs it also has roach, tench, rudd, pike and larger carp.

Access is through a padlocked gate first to the Bicknell Pond( see below) and the main car park a 10-15 minute walk is required to access swims on the opposite side of the lake to the car park. For those interested in flora and fauna it is a Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI) preventing close season fishing. It boasts a variety of wild life such as bats and owls as well as many other species of birds and insects to hold you attraction to the water. Carp MUST NOT be retained and are to be returned immediately after capture to the water.

A night carp ticket system operates there and brief details are in the website opening page or can be provided.

BICKNELL POND SHILLINGLEE
Seperated from the main lake by a bund wall with vehicle width access over it, this 3 acre 30 peg water holds similar species to the main lake without the weight of bream catches. Due to its narrowness fishing there provides a very different type of venue with swims accessed much easier than the main lake with dedicated disabled swims available from the car park. Recent catch reports show improving results following limited stocking three years ago to anglers who fish in the less busy times. The more anglers fish there the better the results are.

LYTHE HILL POND
Located just on the outskirts of Haslemere this 2 acre pond is accessed by passing through private grounds of a country hotel. It offer 25+ swims with carp of average size with some “doubles” and reasonable catches are reported. Carp MUST not be retained and are to be returned after capture to the water. Reasonable sized roach and crucians can be caught it you resist the temptation to catch carp.

IMBHAMS POND
Within 1 mile of Lythe Hill Pond this 1 acre pond has the lilies at the very shallow end attract fish although the deeper water at the dam end is also good. It has some 12 swims and although the wild carp, tench and crucians are not large by any measure the attraction is the beauty of the place. A 150m walk is necessary from the designated car park to reach the pond and no night fishing.

RIVER MOLE DORKING
Situated on the Reigate road shortly after leaving Dorking Centre this short section has some 10 swims accessed through a padlocked gate. It contains the usual variety of river species and bags in excess of 50lb have been recorded due to the numbers of chub. It also holds good perch, roach and some barbel. The Mole is prone to flooding in rainy conditions due to the catchment area so do consider this when planning to fish.

RIVER PARK FARM
Currently this water is shut due to an outbreak of KHV in July 2007 and will remain so for the time being. No details have therefore been provided.
